“The 6th Boro” is a visual diary of the cool, vibrant, softness in nostalgic places, symbols, and community heroes in Loisaida. 2020 has been a year filled with uncertainty and grief, and has required poor Black and brown communities to further adapt to systems and conditions that fail to adapt to our individual/collective needs. This exhibition pays homage to the pivotal joy, innovative genius, and resilience that lives in [between] the blocks that raised me; to the mamas, aunties/tias who continue to hold us down, community cyphs in front of the building and bodega, and the emergent magic that flows through project walls.
